Major: Kent Hughes was supposed to finalize another deal and the details are now revealed
While Kent Hughes has settled the vast majority of these files this summer, the Montreal Canadiens' goaltender situation is still pending. Indeed, as training camp approaches rapidly, the general manager of the Tricolore still hasn't traded one of his three goalies.
Furthermore, while Samuel Montembeault received a call from Kent Hughes confirming that his position wasn't at stake, Raphaël Doucet shared major news this week, stating that Jake Allen had also been assured he would remain in Montreal this year. This means that the newcomer, Casey DeSmith, will be the goalie to be traded by the general manager soon.
Moreover, in a recent column, Jonathan Bernier revealed some very interesting information about the Canadiens. He mentions that, according to a source within the organization, a second transaction was supposed to be announced a few days after Jeff Petry's move to the Detroit Red Wings.
"A source within the Tricolore's higher-ups confirmed to the Journal two weeks ago that another transaction was expected to be announced in the days following the one that sent Petry home to Michigan." - Jonathan Bernier
Wow! He even adds that this trade would have involved goalie Casey DeSmith, but apparently, there were some changes that prevented this deal from being finalized. However, this information confirms the rumor that the former Pittsburgh Penguins' player is not in the organization's plans, and that Kent Hughes is actively working to trade him to another NHL team.
This will be a matter to watch closely before the start of the regular season!
