In his first two games wearing the Montreal Canadiens uniform, Joe Veleno made a strong impression and truly earned praise from several observers.
In his second game with the Habs, the former Red Wings player delivered exactly what Martin St-Louis was looking for: simple, fast, and effective five-on-five play.
Journalist Patrick Friolet from RDS praised his performance:
"Great hockey from Joe Veleno, in his first game in the Canadiens' uniform.
Uses his speed well, effective in puck protection and wins his battles."
- Patrick Friolet
Joe Veleno is already impressing with his hockey IQ and consistency
"It stems from everything he's shown since arriving here. His efficiency at five-on-five and everything he brings at even strength - including mobility and repeatedly winning battles." - Anthony Martineau
Even Stu Cowan from the Montreal Gazette noted on X:
"Joe Veleno looking very good in Habs uniform so far."
These are clearly comments that show how quickly the Quebec-born forward is adapting to the Canadiens' system. I really like hearing that.
If he keeps this up, he could very well become a key piece in Martin St-Louis's rotation.
In my opinion, he brings exactly what was missing from the fourth line - plenty of speed and, above all, a real physical presence in the corners.
