Solid forward: Kent Hughes can now acquire Nicolaj Ehlers
It's known that Kent Hughes likes to make trades to acquire young forwards on the verge of breaking out and bring them to the Canadiens.
He pulled it off in the last two drafts with Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook. Two very good trades so far, which have benefited the Canadiens.

That means those who think someone like Kaiden Guhle could be part of a trade can forget about it right away. He won't move, in my opinion. That would go against the plan.
Now a new possibility arises for Kent Hughes. While Marco Rossi is available in Minnesota and his name is circulating a lot in Montreal, it's actually veteran Nicolaj Ehlers who is mentioned, and it's coming from Winnipeg.

As long as he doesn't touch the core of young players who will be the future on defense, like Lane Hutson, Kaiden Guhle, Logan Mailloux, and David Reinbacher, Kent Hughes absolutely must make an offer to the Jets.
Ehlers is a very high-quality skater who fits perfectly with the Canadiens' fast-paced style of play. He would be a significant addition, especially considering he's quite productive and only 28 years old.
Moreover, Cheveldayoff couldn't ask for the moon, as his contract will expire at the end of next season and he will become an unrestricted free agent. He's currently paid $6 million per year.
On a second line with Kirby Dach, for example, it could definitely spark something.
