A transaction involving Christian Dvorak and a first-round pick to Buffalo: it has just been brought up by a reputable journalist
A very interesting piece of information was recently mentioned by a renowned journalist covering the activities of the Montreal Canadiens, Arpon Basu.
He raised a potential transaction involving Christian Dvorak, a player from the Canadiens who is likely to be among the trade discussions during the next season.
He asserts that the trade value of the 27-year-old center player is higher than one might think. He even adds that a team like the Buffalo Sabres could be very involved in the matter, if they are on track to qualify for the playoffs.
Basu even brings up the name of a promising young forward who might be part of the trade, namely a former first-rounder, the 14th overall pick in 2021, Isak Rosen.
"In the case of Dvorak, the numbers do not necessarily reflect his true value on the trade market.
A third-line center who wins his faceoffs, who can play at both ends of the ice, who can play on the power play and the penalty kill, is an attractive element for a contender.
I believe the Canadiens will see him as such and will need a significant return to trade him.
Again, as an example, let's say the Buffalo Sabres are in contention for the playoffs at the trade deadline...
If they feel they need a veteran center to stabilize things and to play well defensively, they might be willing to trade a youngster like Isak Rosen, a very good prospect, but who is not the jewel of the Sabres." -Arpon Basu
Obviously, in the context where Dvorak most likely should not be part of the organization's long-term plans, if [General Manager] Hughes can get a promising young player like Rosen in return for number 28, it seems almost certain that his days are numbered in Montreal.
