A former first-round pick available for free to Kent Hughes and the other general managers of the NHL
As the season rapidly approaches, many teams are making the final adjustments to their lineup for the first game of the year.
In fact, in the past few hours, the Ottawa Senators have made a somewhat surprising decision by placing the young Finnish defenseman, Lassi Thomson, on waivers.
A decision that has surprised many observers given that he was selected 19th overall in the 2019 draft and is destined for a very promising future in the NHL.
Only 23 years old, the 6'0" and 193-pound defenseman excelled in the American Hockey League last season, scoring 7 goals and 26 assists (33 points) in 56 games. He also performed very well the previous season with 26 points in 44 games.
It would not be surprising if he is claimed by another NHL team in the next few hours, as he could greatly help a defense with his ability to support the offense.
One wonders, in particular, if Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton might be tempted to acquire him. Although the organization already has several good defensemen, the opportunity to get their hands on such a talented young player, and for free, is likely to be quite attractive.
