In the past few hours, the Philadelphia Flyers have made a significant decision by releasing Jay O'Brien, their first-round pick in 2018. O'Brien, a 23-year-old center, had an impressive run in the NCAA, collecting 70 points in 79 games.
According to Elliotte Friedman, it was decided that Jay O'Brien will not sign a new contract with the Flyers, which means that they will receive compensation in the form of a second-round pick in the next NHL draft.
Now that Jay O'Brien is available for free, some observers believe that the Montreal Canadiens could be interested in his services, especially since he already knows Kent Hughes. He is definitely someone to keep an eye on.
