Breaking News: The Rumour is now Confirmed Concerning Filip Zadina, and the Canadiens have a Golden Opportunity
According to information reported by Elliotte Friedman last night, the Red Wings' general manager, Steve Yzerman, was considering the possibility of terminating Czech forward Filip Zadina's contract after he went unclaimed on waivers.
However, Frank Seravalli has just confirmed this information, indicating that the former 6th overall pick in the 2018 draft will indeed be placed on waivers with the aim of reaching a mutual termination of his contract.
"The Detroit Red Wings will place Filip Zadina on unconditional waivers at noon today, in order to proceed with a mutual termination of his contract.
Zadina is thus renouncing the remaining $4.56 million on his contract and will seek a fresh start elsewhere. He had the courage to bet on himself." - Frank Seravalli
Wow! The 23-year-old has decided to leave a lot of money on the table to reboot his career with a new team. Knowing very well that no team will offer him a long-term contract, Zadina will therefore do everything he can to reach his full potential next season.
This would be a very interesting gamble for the Montreal Canadiens, who could add a forward who was compared to David Pastrnak by many experts in his draft year.
If Kent Hughes is willing to offer him a one-season contract at an annual salary of one million dollars, the risk would be simply non-existent. It could turn out to be a real steal for the organization.
Filip Zadina was selected 6th in the 2018 draft and has accumulated 68 points, including 28 goals, since his debut in the NHL. There's no doubt that the forward is loaded with talent and a change of scenery could greatly help him develop.
Should Kent Hughes offer him a contract? One thing's for sure, this is a story to follow closely in the coming hours!
