Indeed, the Anaheim Ducks decided not to offer a contract extension to the 24-year-old this summer, making him a free agent for the very first time in his career. Unable to secure a deal with a team in the NHL, the left-winger from Longueuil finally accepted a professional tryout with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Unfortunately, despite good performances during the preseason games, Pat Verbeek released Maxime Comtois just hours before the start of the 2023-2024 season, leaving him without a team.
However, in the last few hours, we learned that the Quebecer signed a one-season deal with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. However, since the Wolves are not affiliated with an NHL team, Comtois could therefore agree with any team from the NHL if he starts well in the American League.
We sincerely hope he performs well with the Wolves, as he definitely deserves to play in the world's best hockey league. One thing's for sure, the next few weeks will be crucial for his future in the NHL.
Selected in the second round of the 2017 draft, Maxime Comtois accumulated 38 goals and 48 assists during his five seasons with the Californian organization (210 games). Will he be able to convince a general manager to give him a second chance? It will certainly be a situation to watch closely!
