Given that Carey Price's career is now over and the Tricolore's goaltender still has a $10.5 million contract for the next three seasons, we are entitled to wonder if the CH's management could consider this option.
However, as reported by Félix Forget from Dans Les Coulisses, the answer would already be known. Indeed, according to him, these are two completely different cases and we should not expect the 35-year-old goalie to be traded.
Although the annual salaries of the two men are similar, to a few million, the structure of their contracts is completely different and could have a major impact on a team deciding to acquire Carey Price.
Indeed, even though Shea Weber had a $7.857 million impact on the salary cap, he was only earning one million per year. Having no more bonuses to pay on his contract, he became a very interesting option for a team wishing to reach the salary floor.
As for Carey Price, the situation is very different.
His real salary is valued at $2 million per season, including a bonus of $5.5 million to be paid to him every July 1st. This means a team would really have to shell out $7.5 million each year to have a goalie who no longer plays.
Quite expensive for a general manager who just wants to respect the salary cap!
This is why many experts do not expect Carey Price to be traded before the end of his contract, as the structure of it would force a team to spend considerable amounts.
