Obviously, many players are still fighting to earn a spot in the lineup, so it is perfectly normal for the intensity to be high. Nevertheless, it remains crucial to be able to distinguish between a dangerous action and intense playstyle, something the Finn clearly did not understand.
Indeed, with only three minutes remaining in the game, Joel Armia tried to steal the puck from Kirby Dach by projecting him directly onto his own goaltender. Luckily, even though the 22-year-old took several seconds before returning to his team's bench, he seems to have avoided the worst, not having suffered any major injuries.
However, imagine if one of the Habs top forwards had been seriously injured because of his teammate's foolish action, and that too in an intra-team game!
You can quickly understand that Montreal fans were furious at Joel Armia for this simply inexplicable action. Moreover, according to Marc Denis, who was right next to number 77 when he returned to the bench, it wasn't just the fans who were angry. The Canadiens forward clearly did not appreciate the veteran's action.
Fortunately, it was more of a scare than harm, and Kirby Dach is fully healthy!
One thing is for sure, Joel Armia will need to find a smarter way to earn points with the management if he wants to keep his spot in Martin St-Louis's lineup when the regular season takes off.
