Knowing that Kent Hughes still wants to make a big splash during the offseason to improve the team in the short and medium term while respecting the long-term plan, we can imagine what the lineup could look like for the 2026-2027 season, based on current data and rumors surrounding the Habs.
Balle Courbe has provided a realistic idea of what the Canadiens' roster could look like, and honestly, the team could become truly monstrous!
Here is the top-6 in the forward lineup:
As we can see, Kent Hughes would acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois along the way to occupy a role among the top two lines of the team. Additionally, the organization took a chance on a potential generational talent in Matvei Michkov with their 5th draft selection, and he would make his way to North America that season.
Without a doubt, this would create one of the best top-6 forward groups in the league!
Adding to that, a possible third line could consist of Owen Beck, Joshua Roy, and Sean Farrell.
On defense, the brigade could feature Kaiden Guhle, Justin Barron, Logan Mailloux, Lane Hutson, Arber Xhekaj, and Jordan Harris.
Of course, other trades or additions of free agents could change the outlook for Martin St. Louis' squad, but the overall idea is very intriguing.
In essence, Kent Hughes will have the opportunity to build a formidable team that is not only competitive but also exciting to watch for many years in Montreal. However, it all begins with what the organization decides to do with their 5th overall pick.
