It is understandable that for the many NHL teams eliminated from the playoffs, attention is now turning to the 2023 draft and prospects like Connor Bedard.
This is particularly true for teams that rank at the bottom of the league, such as the Montreal Canadiens and the Philadelphia Flyers. Recently, Elliotte Friedman made an interesting statement about this particular topic, as the draft lottery is scheduled in less than a month.
"I think the NHL would be very happy if Connor Bedard ended up in Philadelphia, it's a big hockey market. Philly is a big, intense market, sports fan, hockey fan. [...]" as per Elliotte Friedman on his podcast and via NHL Watcher.
Those who are convinced that the NHL lottery is rigged are likely to react strongly if the Philadelphia Flyers manage to draft Connor Bedard, given that the team has only a 6.5% chance of doing so.
According to a recent survey, a high percentage of fans, 44%, believe that the draft lottery will be rigged. If the Flyers were to draft Bedard, it would be a coup for the franchise and its fans.
