Kent Hughes clearly aimed to address a significant gap within the Canadiens by selecting three goaltenders in the first five rounds of the last draft. Jacob Fowler, who had an exceptional season in the USHL, and Quentin Miller, the netminder for the Quebec Remparts, are well-known among Montreal fans.

However, it's also important to note that the Canadiens' management made a very intriguing choice by adding goaltender Yevgeni Volokhin with the 144th overall pick. The 18-year-old goalie, currently playing in the MHL, Russia's junior ranks equivalent, has been nothing short of extraordinary during his team's preseason games.

Volokhin won all six games he participated in, conceding just four goals throughout that stretch. The 6'3" goalkeeper notably recorded three shutouts, establishing himself as one of the premier goalies in the league.

He will undoubtedly be a player to watch during the 2023-2024 season, as he could potentially become a real steal for the Montreal organization in the coming years. It's worth noting that at only 17 years old, the Khanty-Mansiysk native goaltender compiled a record of 20 wins, 6 losses, and 3 overtime losses, maintaining an impressive save percentage of 0.927 and a goals-against average of 2.12 last season.

Without a doubt, he holds tremendous potential, and it's a safe bet that many fans will closely follow his progress this year.
