Indeed, even though the general manager of the Tricolore has managed to shed several lucrative contracts such as those of Shea Weber, Mike Hoffman, and Jeff Petry, the contract for Price is most likely going to be hard to trade.
However, following the meeting between the league executives and the 32 NHL teams, Kent Hughes made a very interesting statement during his interview with Pierre LeBrun. The GM of the Montreal Canadiens admitted that Carey Price will not be easy to trade, but he is currently evaluating all the options at his disposal in order to improve his lineup.
Even though Carey Price's salary decreases to 7.5 million dollars at the end of this season, the goaltender will earn a very large part of his contract through bonuses, amounting to 5.5 million dollars. This situation could surely prevent Kent Hughes from finding a buyer despite the fact that a team might want to acquire him to reach the salary floor.
One thing is certain, it's very encouraging to see that the general manager of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge (Blue-White-Red) is exploring all possible avenues to enhance the chances of seeing the organization compete against the best teams in the NHL. He has done excellent work since his arrival in the position, and we are very confident that the reconstruction process is moving in the right direction.
