In the last few minutes, an exciting piece of news has emerged about goaltenders Samuel Montembeault and Devon Levi. Although we already knew about Samuel, the official announcement has been made confirming that he will be representing Canada at the upcoming World Hockey Championship.
"Samuel Montembeault will participate in the World Championship and is expected to be the number one goaltender for Team Canada." - Via Steve Turcotte, Nouvelliste
We have also learned the identity of his backup, and it is the young prodigy Devon Levi from the Buffalo Sabres. This means that both goaltenders for Team Canada will be from Quebec.
"Devon Levi will also play for Team Canada at the World Championships after finishing his classes at Northeastern." - Lance Lysowski
"Samuel Montembeault and Devon Levi will be the two goaltenders for Team Canada."
It should be noted that both goaltenders were considered potential candidates for the goaltending duo of the Montreal Canadiens next season. Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton have expressed serious interest in acquiring Devon Levi from the Buffalo Sabres, but so far their efforts have been unsuccessful. Concrete discussions on this matter are reported to have taken place.
Indeed, Levi and Montembeault will be playing together in May, which could provide a glimpse of the potential they could bring to the goaltending duo of the Montreal Canadiens next season. While this remains to be seen, it certainly sparks excitement among fans.
