Major Surprise in the Top-5 Prospects of the Montreal Canadiens by Expert Craig Button
Now that the 2023 draft is behind us, TSN prospect expert Craig Button has published his top-5 of the best young players in the Montreal Canadiens organization.
This is always an interesting exercise, as we can see where the club's new acquisitions stand compared to the pool of prospects already belonging to the Habs, like this year's 5th overall pick, David Reinbacher.
Here is Button's ranking:
We can see two very interesting surprises here. First, despite his high draft selection, Reinbacher ranks third in the ranking. The first place given to Joshua Roy is not only surprising but also very exciting.
The 19-year-old Quebec forward is seriously considered as a high-quality prospect for the future of the organization. We are lucky to see him developing at almost an elite level, considering that he was drafted in the 5th round of the 2021 draft, 150th overall.
Button also states that Roy and Hutson are the only players to receive an "A" rating, meaning they have exceptional potential.
As for the other three, the analyst believes that Reinbacher, Beck, and Mailloux are rather prospects with a "B" rating.
