Just like Connor Bedard, there is no doubt that Matvei Michkov has generational talent. The forward is a natural scorer who could easily score 40 or even 50 goals per season in the NHL.
For an 18-year-old, his statistics in the KHL are simply incredible. The young player is also seen as the best Russian prospect since Alexander Ovechkin.
No matter which team selects him on June 28th, they will be getting an extremely promising player.
Although the Russian forward has long been predicted as the future second overall pick, his three-year contract in the KHL and the current situation in Russia seem to be cooling off many general managers.
This seems to be the case for the Canadiens' management, according to what Stéphane Leroux reported.
Unfortunately for Canadiens fans who hoped to see Matvei Michkov drop in the draft so that the organization could select him at the fifth spot, it seems less and less likely that the organization will focus on the Russian.
We believe it would be a serious mistake not to select a player with as interesting potential as Michkov if he is still available at the fifth spot.
