During a recent appearance on a Russian podcast, Matvei Michkov's agent, Sergei Fedotov, missed a golden opportunity to stay quiet.

In the episode in question, he confirmed a big rumor by stating that his client had no interest in joining two specific NHL teams: the Arizona Coyotes, and surprisingly, the Washington Capitals.

Wow! While the case of the Coyotes is unlikely to surprise many people, that of the Capitals is truly astonishing, especially since the majority of experts linked the young Russian's fate to Alexander Ovechkin's team.

This, therefore, confirms the information that Michkov was indeed very picky about the team that was going to draft him. Some think this is proof of his attitude problem, but I believe that the young man understood the stakes related to his selection and he used his situation to "choose" his NHL destination.

I'm not saying it's a good thing, but let's just say he managed to take advantage of the power he had in his hands to favor his preferred destination, which is Philadelphia.

Moreover, his agent also revealed that the Anaheim Ducks were very interested in acquiring him at the second overall pick.

"Two days before the draft, I received a call from Anaheim scout Konstantin Krylov. A video conference took place. Anaheim seriously considered Matvei Michkov." Sergei Fedotov

This means that if Anaheim had opted for Michkov, the Canadiens would have inherited Will Smith at the fifth overall pick, which would not only have changed the entire draft landscape but also the satisfaction of the CH fans who were predominantly very disappointed with the selection of David Reinbacher.
