He was a key factor in the Petes' playoff success, as they went on to claim the top honors and thus qualify for the Memorial Cup. In five matches, the 6"0 and 191 pound center registered one goal and two assists, helping the Ontario team finish in third place.
The Canadiens' prospect was notably rewarded for his wonderful season, having been named on the OHL's third all-star team alongside Brennan Othmann (Peterborough Petes), Avery Hayes (Peterborough Petes), Ty Nelson (North Bay Battalion), Christian Kyrou (Sarnia Stings), and Michael Simpson (Peterborough Petes).
Owen Beck certainly had an emotional season, joining the Canadian team at the last World Junior Championship to help Canada win the gold medal. A few days later, the 19-year-old was recalled by the Canadiens to play his first game in the NHL.
There's no doubt that the forward has a very promising future ahead. It wouldn't be surprising if he makes a surprise appearance at the next training camp, given that he was one of the last players to be cut last season. Unfortunately, due to his age, Owen Beck will not be eligible to play for the Laval Rocket in 2023-2024, so he will have to make a return with the Petes in the OHL or manage to carve out a spot in Martin St-Louis' lineup.
One thing's for sure, last year's 33rd overall pick has immense potential and could become a very important player for the Habs in the coming years. Beck is possibly the most complete prospect in the Canadiens organization, his style of play comparable to Philip Danault.
