As the hockey world will have their eyes glued to the NHL lottery tonight at 8 p.m., everyone is eagerly waiting to find out which team will have the opportunity to acquire the league's future generational player, Connor Bedard.
While the first overall selection of the Regina Pats captain is indisputable, Adam Fantilli's pick in second place is more than likely. According to many, he is the second-best prospect of the 2023 class, given that the risks surrounding Matvei Michkov would significantly hurt his selection.
In his first season in the NCAA, the centerman accumulated an impressive total of 65 points, including 30 goals, in just 36 games. He also won the prestigious Hobey-Baker trophy, awarded annually to the player of the year.
In short, the 18-year-old made a surprising decision ahead of this lottery, which greatly demonstrates his maturity and professionalism.
"When the NHL draft lottery takes place tonight, Adam Fantilli will be sleeping in his hotel in Budapest.
And the consensus #2 pick is not setting an alarm to find out which team will likely draft him.
A great conversation with a very mature prospect."
Ian Mendes
Quite surprising, but it's great to see that the University of Michigan forward has put his focus on the World Championship, where he will represent Canada alongside several NHL players.
This says a lot about him, and we can't wait to see if he can make his mark during this tournament, solidifying his position behind Bedard.
