Gustavsson's impressive statistics could provide a compelling argument for Kent Hughes in his discussions with Samuel Montembeault, potentially leading to a slightly less lucrative contract. After all, the Canadiens' number 35 finished the year with very impressive numbers, considering the fact that Montreal had one of the worst defenses in the league. Montembeault kept his team in the game on numerous occasions throughout the season, posting a save percentage of 0.901 in 40 games.
Also, he was simply incredible for Team Canada during the Hockey World Championship this summer, winning six out of the seven games he played. Considering he is potentially the future number one goaltender for the organization, a three-year, 9-million-dollar contract seems legitimate.
