Potential return of Patrick Roy with the Remparts next year? He denied this possibility
After a historic season where the Quebec Remparts finished at the top of the QMJHL with a harvest of 109 points in 68 games, Patrick Roy's men managed to clinch the Gilles-Courteau Cup as well as the Memorial Cup.
However, despite this successful season, the former Montreal Canadiens legend, Patrick Roy, still decided to end his association with the Remparts. Indeed, he announced that he would not be returning as the head coach and general manager of the Quebec team in 2023-2024.
While some fans hoped he would reconsider, Patrick Roy made a major statement during his appearance at the golf tournament organized by Serge Savard, indicating that he was at peace with his decision and that the possibility of seeing him at the helm of the Remparts this season could be ruled out.
"It's like when I retired as a player in 2003, today we move on to something else. I've pretty much moved on, but of course we watch from a distance, we're all sports fanatics.
Sure, the Remparts will always be a part of me, and I'll be a fan and follow them closely." -Patrick Roy
Roy couldn't have been clearer in his words, he who has definitely moved on to something else. Would a position in the NHL be the only thing that could change his mind? We'll have to wait and see if such an opportunity presents itself to him in the coming months.
