Significant Update: a serious trade offer has been made for Shane Pinto with the Senators
There's a big issue to address with the Ottawa Senators, as forward Shane Pinto is still without a contract just a few days away from the start of training camps in the NHL.
Being a restricted free agent and given that the Sens have less than a million dollars available under the salary cap, everyone is wondering how this situation will be resolved in the coming weeks.
Unless there's a significant personnel move in Ottawa, there's no indication that an agreement will be reached, as it would be surprising if Pinto agrees to sign for an amount less than a million.
However, a major development has occurred in the trade market, as a team has reportedly made a serious attempt to acquire him. According to information reported by the excellent Marco D'Amico, the Philadelphia Flyers have made an offer for Pinto and Mathieu Joseph.
«The Flyers apparently made an offer to the Sens to acquire Shane Pinto (and Mathieu Joseph/his contract), but to no avail.
Pinto still doesn't have a contract (RFA) and camp starts this week!»
- Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
Wow! Daniel Brière sensed an opportunity to add a promising young forward, but unfortunately, his counterpart Pierre Dorion didn't take the bait.
It will still be a situation to watch during training camps, especially if the Senators decide to start the season leaving Pinto without a contract.
