With the recent acquisition of Casey DeSmith, the Montreal Canadiens now have four goalies under NHL contracts in their organization, making it a complicated situation to navigate for the upcoming season.

With this in mind, many believe that Cayden Primeau's fate is already sealed, suggesting he will need to play another season in the AHL. However, there's a crucial factor to consider this year: the 24-year-old will have to go through waivers if he's sent to Laval.

Thus, the Canadiens risk losing him for nothing to another team at the beginning of the next season.

However, as reported by Marc-Olivier Cook from the site Daneslescoulisses.com, Primeau has a significant ally within the organization: his head coach with the Rocket, Jean-François Houle.

During a discussion aired on TSN 690, Houle made a statement that could further complicate the situation for Kent Hughes and the team. He expressed his belief that Cayden Primeau currently has the skill set to play in the NHL, using the term "NHL ready."

Of course, when vital decisions need to be made for the 2023-2024 season, it's very likely that there will be additional discussions, especially since Houle has a strong belief in Primeau's potential.

If Primeau were to have an outstanding training camp, he might certainly change the dynamics and make the job immensely challenging for his general manager.

This will be a situation to monitor in the upcoming weeks.
