Today, the hockey world is saddened by the news of Braydin Lewis' passing. The 19-year-old defenseman from the Metro Jets of the USHL lost his battle with cancer.
It is a shock to everyone, as Lewis was a talented player who had amassed 45 points in 37 games in his last season.
Even after being diagnosed with the illness, he was determined to get back on the ice and managed to play six games this season, scoring four points including three goals. We are all speechless in the face of this tragedy that occurred last night.
"After his diagnosis last summer, he was determined to return for his third season. Not only did he return, but played while undergoing treatment. Lewey's strength and willingness was an inspiration to the team and he showed up to support his teammates at every opportunity."
Indeed, Braydin Lewis was a true warrior who showed courage and determination throughout his battle with cancer. We wish to express our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones in these difficult times. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this trying ordeal.
