Transaction announced for the Montreal Canadiens: Pierre LeBrun reveals very interesting information about the acquisition of Tanner Pearson
Earlier this week, the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, finally completed his last off-season task, which was to trade goaltender Casey DeSmith. Indeed, the former Pittsburgh Penguins player was traded to the Vancouver Canucks in return for veteran Tanner Pearson and a third-round pick.
Although the 31-year-old forward is not a frontline player who can play in the team's top 6, there is no doubt that he can provide valuable support within the Canadiens' third line. He notably performed very well in intra-team matches this week, leaving an excellent first impression on the organization's leadership.
Furthermore, during his appearance on Hockey 360 on RDS airwaves, Pierre LeBrun revealed some very interesting information about the behind-the-scenes of this trade. According to him, the special advisor to hockey operations, Vincent Lecavalier, played a decisive role in bringing Tanner Pearson, specifically suggesting to Kent Hughes to acquire him.
"From what I'm hearing, Vincent Lecavalier told Kent Hughes that Tanner Pearson is a character guy and could greatly help the team. This is precisely one of the reasons he was hired, as he has opinions on several NHL players." - Pierre LeBrun
Wow! It's very encouraging to see that the team's management has surrounded itself with many competent people in the hockey world and that Kent Hughes does not hesitate to take their recommendations into account.
One thing's for sure, we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the newcomer in action this season, who might allow the Canadiens to acquire another draft pick at the trade deadline given that his contract ends next summer.
