Former Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price has given a touching interview about his struggles with substance abuse during his time in the NHL, where he did everything he could to conquer his demons.

There were many rumors that he had completely stopped drinking alcohol, and they are indeed true!

Usually private about his personal life, number 31 opened up during an appearance on a popular podcast.

Price agreed to an interview with the former hockey player and was willing to discuss his past issues. It's important to recognize the courage this takes.

We recall that the former Canadiens star had announced he had a problem with alcohol consumption. He is now sober, according to what we know. He has done a lot of work on himself. Alcoholism, like any addiction, requires commitment and daily effort to avoid relapse.

What great news!

His physical, mental, and emotional health have greatly improved since he made this decision.

At 36, Carey Price has just celebrated two years of sobriety, and in this context, he delivered a testimony filled with transparency and honesty, lasting no less than 45 minutes. It was a personal battle every step of the way.

"You go through several stages. It's new, it's exciting. After a while, you think, 'Oh man...' You know, everyone around you is drinking and having a good time. You create new habits. When you fish, you have a beer. When you go camping, you have a cooler. When you play golf, everything is in the cart. All these things, you have to find new ways to do them," said the most victorious goalie in Canadiens history.

The pressure of the Stanley Cup Final was a particularly stressful moment, and it was then that the situation worsened. Carey Price even spoke about his relationship with former general manager Marc Bergevin.

"The whole team was great," he said of the Canadiens. "Berge [GM Marc Bergevin] too. We had a long and emotional conversation. What was said will remain between us, but everything came from the heart." - Carey Price

Let's also remember that Price is now an unofficial retiree from the NHL due to serious knee issues. He hasn't officially announced his retirement since he's still receiving a substantial salary paid by his contract's insurance.

During the 2021 playoffs, the goalie was troubled by recurring knee problems. He had to take medication to manage the intense pain he endured daily. However, he confirmed that he never abused painkillers.

"I've always been good at managing medication, because it can kill you. I've always been a bit reckless, but not that reckless." - Carey Price

By revealing his struggles, he is likely to attract a lot of compassion from his former teammates and fans. Even though these athletes are professionals, they can experience difficult situations or addictions. We never wish such personal problems on anyone.

A family man married to Angela Price, Carey Price has gotten back on track with everyone's help. His sobriety is a gift he has given to himself, his loved ones, and his family. We can only be happy for him!

"How many days of my life have I wasted feeling like that? Now, I wake up on Sunday mornings to make breakfast for my kids and be a present father. I am very grateful for that," added Carey Price.
