With David Reinbacher sidelined due to injury, Hutson could see an increased role this season, taking on more responsibilities.
Despite having an excellent training camp, there are areas of his game that require adjustments. On the show L'Antichambre, François Gagnon praised Hutson but pointed out a key area for improvement: the management of his shift lengths. Gagnon explained that Hutson tends to extend his shifts, which can make him vulnerable towards the end of a shift when fatigue sets in, potentially leading to mistakes. This is an important adjustment for the young defenseman if he wants to perform at a high level consistently throughout the regular season.
On the other hand, Jayden Struble has also performed well, once again proving his value. However, Hutson, who has been paired with Justin Barron, has stood out even more, demonstrating great poise with the puck. His composure and confidence show promising signs for a potential spot in the NHL this season.
While there are still a few aspects of his game to fine-tune, which is normal for such a young player, it's becoming increasingly evident that Lane Hutson is deserving of a place on the Canadiens' roster for the start of the 2024-2025 season.
