They are the 2nd youngest team in the entire NHL and the defense is just as young, with only two veterans and five players under 24. When we say that a defenseman becomes mature around 27 or 28, it rings a bell.
Unfortunately, the Canadiens also have the worst defense in the NHL and it is impossible to win games by allowing an average of more than 3 goals per game.
I do not know if it is at the level of the game system or the effort, the understanding, but something must be happening. It cannot continue like this.
Well, four young defensemen decided to take things in hand on this Monday morning in Brossard. Not only did they jump on the ice very early, there were many of them.
Justin Barron opened the show 90 minutes before practice. Arber Xhekaj and Jayden Struble followed a few minutes later and Lane Hutson followed as well.
It's fantastic to see that. The kids want to get better and they want the team to win. They know they have to play better to get there. Seeing players practice one aspect for 30 minutes before practice is a regular occurrence. For an hour and a half, I don't remember ever seeing that. Especially not involving four players in the same position.
Clearly, the Canadiens' defense wants to get better and I'm very proud of them. This is great news this morning and I hope it sets the tone for Tuesday night's game.
