During his press conference in front of journalists assigned to covering the activities of the Canadiens, the new member of the team, Patrik Laine, was reluctant to answer the media representatives' questions.

Far from mincing words, the journalists stayed true to their reputation by not holding back during the questioning, and Patrik Laine got a taste of what he can expect in Montreal. Tough questions arose regarding his entry into the NHLPA's Player Assistance Program.

He first made an impression by stating that he wants to bring the Stanley Cup back to Montreal and that he intends to score between 40 and 50 goals this year.

The forward did not hide behind excuses or pre-written statements from Chantal Machabée. He was genuinely transparent and engaging during his press conference.

He eventually shared more about the reasons that led him to seek help last January.

"One thing I've learned is that when you no longer enjoy what you're doing (in his case, playing hockey), you probably won't be able to perform, and that's where I was. I hadn't been able to enjoy myself for a while, but now I'm happier than ever. [...] I've worked a lot on myself to get back to this point where I'm sincerely excited to start playing again, with a new team and new teammates. I've learned a lot, and I'm more ready than ever to put it into practice."

He also admitted that he sometimes had difficulty reacting to certain situations but now feels much better equipped to handle more emotional situations. One thing is certain, his mental health will be a top priority for Kent Hughes and Martin St-Louis.

There's been a lot of talk about Patrik Laine being in decline over the past few years, but is that really the case? He still managed to score 117 points in his last 129 NHL games, averaging 0.91 points per game. If he maintains that pace this season in Montreal, that would translate to 74 points-a mere three points less than Nick Suzuki's output last year. Not too bad for a guy supposedly in decline!
