Even though he is far from making the main team, it's interesting to see that the club, which changed ownership towards the end of the 2023-2024 calendar, wants to invest in a competitive team in the short term.
For the Trois-Rivières affiliate, the Tricolore organization has indeed announced the signing of 6-foot-5 defenseman Cory Thomas, originally from Saskatchewan.
Welcome back, Cory!
We know that fans in the Mauricie region love to follow the activities of their teams like the Shawinigan Cataractes or the Estacades de la Mauricie in the M18 AAA. As for the Montreal Canadiens, this also adds great organizational depth in this department.
At 26 years old, the former defenseman of the Utah Grizzlies and Idaho Steelheads amassed 9 points in 33 games last season. He evidently made a very good impression on Ron Choules and his team.
We might see him at the Laval Rocket's training camp next September and, who knows, with injuries, he could be called up as reinforcement.
After the ownership change and the uncertainty regarding the future of the Trois-Rivières team, Kent Hughes and the Canadiens can be pleased to see the ECHL affiliate doing everything in its power to present a competitive team on the ice.
We should also expect Kent Hughes to send many promising young prospects there.
Details to follow.
