Currently a free agent, former Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty could see his situation change in the coming hours, according to information revealed by renowned journalist Frank Seravalli.

According to recent developments, Max Pacioretty is still drawing interest in the NHL.

Bad luck and injuries have completely torpedoed his offensive production, and he has become perceived as a fragile player within NHL circles. In recent years, he has shown that he can still be useful as a depth player, but one shouldn't expect a lucrative contract.

Max Pacioretty on the verge of signing a contract? Frank Seravalli has some news

According to the well-known insider, the 35-year-old forward and former Montreal Canadien is being courted by three different teams. These teams are interested in acquiring Max Pacioretty's services but do not want to pay too much!

This is good news for him, and it's hard not to wish him a contract, but let's just say his best days are behind him.

Is the Montreal Canadiens one of those interested teams?

It's a good question, but it would be more than surprising. First, the Canadiens' top-9 forwards have expensive one-way contracts, and they are likely to contribute more than Max Pacioretty at 35. If the injury list were full, it could be an interesting rental at the right price.

If Kent Hughes works his magic and manages to trade a player like Josh Anderson, it could become an interesting option. However, it would be challenging to find him a spot in the top-9 with all the talent present in Montreal. He's entirely excluded from the top-6, but could he help in the top-9? He still has an excellent wrist shot and can still score goals. However, his speed is much slower than it once was. Expectations should be very low. One has to wonder if a player like Alex Barré-Boulet has more value than Max Pacioretty.

At 35, Max Pacioretty is likely to sign his last professional contract during this offseason. The forward has amassed 63 points in his last 91 NHL games, including 23 points in 47 games last season, which is quite impressive given the circumstances.

The good news is that his most recent injury dates back several months, so it's reasonable to believe that he could play most of the upcoming regular season.

A situation to watch...
