The Montreal Canadiens are entering their fourth year of rebuilding, and several young forwards are knocking on the NHL's door.

Given this congestion of young talent, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton may be forced to make room on the roster by trading a veteran before the start of the season.

According to The Fourth Period (TFP), three players are currently on the trading block for the Canadiens: Christian Dvorak, Joel Armia, and Josh Anderson. Dvorak, 28, is in the final year of a six-year contract worth $4.45 million per season and could attract the interest of a playoff-contending team.

Armia, 31, showed signs of recovery during the 2023-2024 season despite being overlooked by all teams in the league during waivers last year. Finally, Anderson, 30, with a contract worth $5.5 million until 2027, has seen his production decline, which could complicate a trade.

"It seems that Anderson's best days are behind him, with only nine goals and 20 points last season... His value being at an all-time low may not make for the most rewarding subtraction for Hughes & Co., but it could be a recipe for disaster if they decide to keep him as their competitive window begins to open." - TFP

The Canadiens will need to make important decisions, especially if Oliver Kapanen pushes management for a spot on the team. A team looking for a forward with a significant salary like the Columbus Blue Jackets could be an ideal trade partner.
