Indeed, the new locker room boss is known for being pretty strict with his players. He is clearly not a fan of Timothy Liljegren and has only played one game this season.
This is partly why he was traded to the San Jose Sharks. The Maple Leafs are getting Matt Benning and 3rd and 6th round picks in return.
Timothy Liljegren was destined for a bright future, but he has not developed to the organization's liking, just like Rasmus Sandin, who left last year.
The Maple Leafs are very good at developing forwards as we can see with Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Mitch Marner, but on the defense side, it is less easy.
Timothy Liljegren was selected 17th overall in 2017 by the Maple Leafs. In 197 career games, he has 65 points, including 14 goals.
The 25-year-old defenseman will therefore be able to continue his development with the Sharks organization, where he will have a better chance of playing quality minutes with a team that is in the midst of a rebuild.
He will act as a veteran there with good youngsters like Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini, among others.
