Many Montreal Canadiens fans were greatly disappointed with the performances of the 2022 first overall pick, Juraj Slafkovsky, in the previous season. Despite having some good moments, the Slovak forward only managed to score four goals and six assists (10 points) in 39 games, casting doubts about his true potential.

However, it's important to consider that Slafkovsky was only 18 years old throughout the entirety of the games he played with the Habs in the 2022-2023 season. Moreover, as was the case with players like Mikko Rantanen or Tage Thompson, forwards with a substantial build often take more time to develop and reach their full potential.

Patience is thus required for Juraj Slafkovsky, who will still need to show some progression this season.

During an interview with Tomá Prokop of Sport.sk, former Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jaroslav Halak expressed high optimism about the Canadiens' forward. He mentioned that he expected the 19-year-old to take big strides this year and firmly believed that Slafkovsky will have a successful career in the NHL.

"You could see it on the ice, he has a good shot. He's still young, he'll be even stronger and faster. I think he will take a big step forward this year and will have a great career in the NHL." Jaroslav Halak

Wow! It's very encouraging to hear such a statement!

Let's hope strongly that Jaroslav Halak is right, as the Canadiens' management has high expectations for the 6'3", 238-pound forward. With a great shot and significant physical presence, there's no doubt that the Kosice native could, if he reaches his full potential, be a perfect linemate to complement the duo of Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.

However, it will be important to give him time to acclimate to the NHL level of play so that he can become the player the organization is seeking. Fans will need to temper their expectations for the forward this season to ensure we don't witness a repeat of Jesperi Kotkaniemi 2.0, who quickly became a polarizing figure in Montreal. Yet, now 23 years old, the Finn is showing very promising signs and could reach the 50-point mark in the 2023-2024 season.
