For young players, the off-season is often when they make significant strides in their development, focusing on rigorous off-ice training and on-ice work.
While he was a guest on the Empty Netters podcast, Kirby Dach made a very interesting statement about what he worked on intensely over the summer. Aware that his offensive weakness is his shot, having always been more of a playmaker than a scorer, he is doing everything possible to improve this particular facet of his game.
He even sought out shooting training expert Tim Turk, who has worked with the likes of Connor Bedard in the past. Turk specializes in developing shooting techniques. He places a strong emphasis on the deceptive aspect of shots to fool opposing goalies.
Much like we see with the famous technique called toe-drag release, which involves changing the shot trajectory to deceive the goalie. Bedard has already become an expert, and Turk probably had a hand in this incredible skill of the Blackhawks' top pick.
Turk also had words of praise for the Canadiens' number 77, stating he is an exemplary hard worker.
We are eager to see Dach's progress in this area, for if he can enhance his seasonal goal total due to his intense shooting training, it would add a vital string to the Canadiens' offensive bow.
Knowing that he impressed Turk during their time working together, it bodes well for the upcoming season of the third overall pick from the 2019 draft.
