According to Marco Normandin from Habsolument Fan, a trade was reportedly in place between the Canadiens and the Ducks during the draft, involving Trevor Zegras and Logan Mailloux. However, the deal ultimately fell through.
We still don't have confirmation that this information is 100% accurate, but no one has refuted it either, which makes it increasingly credible.
As for the Ducks, their GM, Pat Verbeek, is indeed looking to trade Trevor Zegras. He has been trying, much like Kent Hughes, to make two significant acquisitions this summer.
According to Elliotte Friedman, Pat Verbeek made strong attempts to acquire Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault, just as the Canadiens did (especially with Marchessault).
In the end, it was Predators GM Barry Trotz who came out on top.
The team has a lot of talent but is young and lacks quality veterans. Adding Marchessault and/or Stamkos would have changed a lot.
In light of this information, Trevor Zegras' name is being mentioned even more in trade rumors. Now that Kent Hughes has acquired Patrik Laine, I would be very surprised if a trade with the Canadiens were still possible.
