A Former Defenseman Of The Tricolore Officially Announces His Retirement From Professional Hockey

In the past few hours, former Montreal Canadiens defenseman, Zach Redmond, has officially announced his retirement from professional hockey.

The Traverse City native played 133 games with the Winnipeg Jets, Colorado Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens, and Buffalo Sabres during his NHL career.

Traded to the Sabres in exchange for Nicolas Deslauriers, the veteran played 16 games with the Tricolore in the 2016-2017 season.

Following his last season in the NHL, Zach Redmond continued his career in Europe where he played three seasons with Munich EHC in the DEL.

He notably performed very well during his stint in Germany, collecting 35 goals and 79 assists (114 points) in 139 games. The 35-year-old defenseman also won the title of the DEL's best defenseman in the 2021-2022 season with an excellent season of 41 points in 50 games.

A few hours after announcing his retirement, the Buffalo Sabres added the defenseman to their organization, where he accepted a position as a development coach.
