In the most recent NHL Draft, the Montreal Canadiens set their sights on an intriguing prospect, Vinzenz Rohrer, with their 75th pick of the draft.

Born on September 9, 2004, the Austrian forward was the youngest player in this class, being less than a week away from finding himself among the prospects of 2023.

He spent the last two seasons with the Ottawa 67's in the OHL, where he racked up 97 points in 118 games. He added 16 points in 15 playoff matches over these two campaigns.

Technically still having at least another year to play in juniors, the 18-year-old player appears to be on the verge of making a significant decision about his future.

Indeed, Rohrer is currently training with the Zurich Lions in Switzerland, a team in the country's professional league.

It is important to note that the young man had played among the affiliates of the Zurich organization before making the jump to North America.

For those wondering whether this change could benefit him, note that the NLA, which is Switzerland's professional league, is a very competitive league. It is the European hockey league that is closest in playing style to North America, due to a significant number of former NHL players often ending their careers there.

This year included David Desharnais, Linus Omark, Tyler Ennis, Brett Connolly, Alexandre Texier. T.J Brennan, Jiri Sekac, Victor Rask, Jacob De La Rose, Sven Andrighetto, Frédérik Gauthier, Valtteri Filppula, and several others.

This could certainly be a very interesting avenue for his development, who could play more elevated hockey than in the OHL next year.
