According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, there are currently internal discussions regarding the possibility of trading Anthony Mantha this summer. Additionally, considering that the forward will be entering the final year of his $5.7 million contract and has only amassed 27 points in 67 games this season, the price to acquire him would be minimal.
Frank Seravalli also mentioned that if Brian MacLellan truly wants to part ways with the Quebec native, he might be compelled to include an incentive in a trade.
It would not be surprising for the Capitals to want to win one more Stanley Cup before Alexander Ovechkin retires. The American team could therefore try to make a big move in the free agent market on July 1st to achieve that. If that's indeed the case, getting rid of Mantha's contract could become a priority.
Anthony Mantha has been linked to the Canadiens on several occasions in the past, and it's worth wondering if Kent Hughes could be interested in acquiring him. Could the Canadiens' general manager make a Sean Monahan-type trade to add a draft pick or a young prospect to his roster?
With only one year remaining on his contract, the risk would be practically nonexistent. A change of scenery could also be very beneficial for the Quebec native to revive his career, especially considering he has previously scored 25 goals with the Detroit Red Wings.
If the Canadiens can acquire a draft pick by adding Anthony Mantha to their roster, the team's general manager should seriously consider pursuing that option.
