A former NHL recruiter has made a very interesting trade proposal involving the Canadiens and the Red Wings
Former Montreal Canadiens recruiter, Grant McCagg, made a very interesting trade proposition on his Twitter account. Indeed, according to him, Kent Hughes should attempt to acquire the 9th and 17th picks from the Red Wings in exchange for the 5th overall pick.
"If Detroit offered the number 9 and 17 picks to move up to the 5th overall pick, I would bite. Having a top ten pick, two top 20s, and three first-round picks for the first time in the same draft since Sam Pollock was the general manager would not be a bad thing." - Grant McCagg
By carrying out this transaction, the Tricolore would have three picks among the first 32 selections of the draft and could therefore get their hands on very promising prospects. Many recruiters have indeed mentioned that the 2023 crop is possibly the year where there were the most players with a potential to have a significant impact in the NHL. There is therefore no doubt that it would be a huge luxury for the Canadiens to be able to select three players in the first round.
Here is the full proposal:
TO MONTREAL
The 9th and 17th overall picks in 2023
TO DETROIT
The 5th overall pick in 2023
In the event that Connor Bedard, Adam Fantilli, Leo Carlsson, and Will Smith are selected in the first four picks and Kent Hughes has no intention of drafting Matvei Michkov, this trade could be greatly beneficial for the organization.
