The organization seems determined to take a huge step forward next season, as they may possibly have their top-4 composed of the following players:
What's fascinating about these two acquisitions is that Columbus already had a pool of very promising young defensemen with David Jiricek, Denton Mateychuk, Corson Ceulemans, and Stanislav Svozil.
They also have Jake Bean, Nick Blankenburg, and Adam Boqvist, who are all talented young defensemen, all under 25 years old.
In this case, the one we're specifically interested in is Boqvist, a Swede who was an 8th overall pick in 2018, and who is now 22 years old.
The latter is a versatile and very mobile right-handed defenseman, with excellent game vision. He brings a very interesting offensive dimension to a defensive squad.
Injured for a large part of this season, he still managed to get 24 points in 46 games. Last year, he finished with a record of 11 goals and 22 points in 52 games.
With the recent additions to the Jackets, his role with the team could be greatly affected, finding himself in a very precarious situation.
Taking into account that Boqvist could become tradeable in Columbus and that he would fit perfectly into the Canadiens' defense, it is clear that he could become a golden opportunity for Kent Hughes, to add a strong element to his current lineup.
In the perspective where Boqvist could secure a position in the club's top-4, he could complete a formidable duo with Kaiden Guhle or Michael Matheson.
Now looking to bulk up on the attack, and since GM Jarmo Kekalainen always has his former protege, Josh Anderson, in mind, a major trade could materialize between the two teams.
Whether it's with Anderson or not, Hughes absolutely needs to reach out to his Columbus counterpart to find out his asking price for Boqvist.
