The Montreal Canadiens are slowly positioning themselves to make a major move soon, most likely in the summer of 2024.

With a young, talented core that will age another year, due to several excellent contracts given to guys like Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook, in addition to young stars like Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, adding a top-6 superstar will likely be a priority for the organization.

With two first and second round picks in 2025, as well as a significant number of quality prospects, Kent Hughes will have his hands full to take his team to the next level with both immediate and long-term help.

The Canadiens' GM even revealed that the depth at this level will allow him to overpay to add the missing piece to improve his team.

"Kent Hughes says that the depth of prospects and the depth of draft selections within the organization open the door for the team to potentially 'overpay' for someone or something that better fits the Suzuki-Caufield-Dach window." - Jared Book

Although this season will be another transitional one, if the Habs draft again in the top-10 in the 2024 class, they will have all the assets needed to make a big splash during the summer season.
