In the last few days, three head coaches have been fired from their positions, namely Dallas Eakins of the Ducks, Brad Larsen of the Blue Jackets, and Peter Laviolette of the Capitals.
Furthermore, some coaches are still under observation, notably D. J. Smith in Ottawa, as his superior, Pierre Dorion, did not give him a vote of confidence during his annual review on Monday morning.
TSN journalist Shawn Simpson confirmed Dorion's insinuations and even suggested that Claude Julien would be a potential candidate to replace Smith if the position were to become available.
"No real vote of confidence from Dorion towards Smith. More of a compliment and thank you. Keep an eye on Claude Julien."
Indeed, with his experience, Claude Julien would be a wise choice to give the necessary momentum to the young players of the Senators and help them take the next step.
It is true that the coaching carousel is likely to be significant this summer in the NHL, and it will be interesting to closely follow its evolution.
