However, all signs suggest that the general manager will not make any major acquisitions in the coming weeks, as he seems to prefer waiting for his team to mature before grafting new elements onto his lineup.
The Twitter account Hockey Night In Montreal often suggests trade proposals involving the Tricolore to solicit fan opinions about potential trades the organization could make.
This account recently made a very interesting proposition that would allow the Canadiens to get their hands on a young forward with undeniable offensive talent. Indeed, this trade would send none other than Clayton Keller to Montreal, but the price to pay for his acquisition would be exceedingly high.
It should be noted that this is not a trade that was discussed between Kent Hughes and Bill Armstrong, but rather a suggestion made by a fan who wishes to get the opinions of other fans.
Here is the proposed trade in question:
Of course, the idea of adding a player of Clayton Keller's caliber to the organization is very enticing. The 24-year-old forward has had a meteoric rise over the past two seasons, amassing 63 points in 67 games in 2021-2022 and 86 points (37 goals and 49 assists) in 82 games last year.
There is no doubt that his acquisition would greatly benefit the Tricolore's attack as he could instantly play a role on Martin St-Louis' top two lines. The Canadiens haven't had a scorer with more than 80 points since Alex Kovalev in 2007-2008, and his offensive contribution could be a major asset in the coming years.
However, in our opinion, the price to pay would be far too high for Kent Hughes to consider making this trade. Josh Anderson and Jordan Harris could be two interesting players to include in such a trade, but it would be too risky to trade the Flames' first-round pick and two second-round picks.
If you were in Kent Hughes' place, would you accept this trade?
