The Montreal Canadiens' prospect who garnered the most attention this season was undoubtedly Lane Hutson.

The Canadiens' second-round pick from last year, 62nd overall, is a true stroke of genius on the part of the Montreal organization.

According to some experts, if the undersized defenseman had been 3 or 4 inches taller at the time of his draft, he wouldn't have slipped to the second round. Some even go further, suggesting he could have had the talent to go in the top 10 of the 2022 draft. Wow!

In fact, a statement from a scout has resurfaced on social media following his absolutely stunning goal against Sweden on Monday night, and today, his words make him appear as a true genius.

"In professional hockey, the percentage of defensemen who do what this guy does is extremely rare. In our pool of prospects, there is none. And every team aspiring to major honors in the NHL right now has this player."

Here's the video in question:

That's the kind of statement that ages extremely well for the Canadiens, and given the excitement of some scouts towards Hutson, the team must have been in disbelief to see him still available at the end of the second round.

All eyes will be on his second season in the NCAA, after the 19-year-old essentially dominated the league last year, tallying 15 goals and 48 points in 39 games.

Having grown an inch and a half and gained nearly twenty pounds since his selection, the Missouri native is very likely to make the jump to the Canadiens after his upcoming campaign with the Boston University Terriers.

We're eagerly looking forward to seeing him play his first game in Montreal!
