A transaction involving a goaltender by the Montreal Canadiens? Major last-minute development in this regard
Currently with the Montreal Canadiens, there are three goalies with NHL contracts including Samuel Montembeault, Jake Allen, and newcomer Casey DeSmith. We could even add Cayden Primeau to the equation, as he will have to go through waivers at the beginning of next season if he is to be demoted to Laval.
In short, if there is something that seems to be a certainty, it is that Kent Hughes is likely to move at least one of his goaltenders before training camp. Basically, Jeff Petry should not be the only one potentially packing his bags for another team in the coming weeks.
Moreover, a clue supports this strong possibility, as there is even a likely candidate to see his name in a trade soon.
"Kent Hughes has still not had formal communication with Casey DeSmith's agent. And the Canadiens are oddly silent on their latest acquisitions. Everything suggests that other trades are being prepared." - Simon-Olivier Lorange, from La Presse
It must be said, it is quite rare for a GM not to get in touch with his acquisitions following a trade. Normally, it indicates one thing: another personnel move is coming.
Even more surprising is that the prospect acquired in the same transaction, Nathan Légaré, has been contacted by the Canadiens' assistant director, whereas DeSmith and Petry have not.
Let's just say it's causing quite a buzz, as everything points to more trades coming soon.
