William Nylander just had the best season of his career. With a record of 40 goals and 87 points in 82 games, he finished as the top scorer and second-highest point getter on his team this season.
The forward finally made the decision, after the Maple Leafs' second-round defeat against the Florida Panthers, not to join Sweden at the Ice Hockey World Championship, contrary to what was announced last week.
After joining the team, he finally changed his mind. Nylander didn't want to take the place of a team player, especially since his younger brother Alex Nylander could have been the one to miss out, according to TSN journalist Chris Johnston, and he didn't want to take that chance.
On the other hand, other rumors suggest that the Maple Leafs could be involved in this turnaround regarding his participation in the tournament. The real reason for this sudden change of opinion remains a mystery to all.
We'll have to wait and see how far Sweden will go in the Ice Hockey World Championship without him.
