While some, like the colorful Simon "Snake" Boisvert, do not believe in the 20-year-old defenseman's talent, others are fascinated by his potential.
In relation to this first-round pick in 2021, former CH scout Grant McGagg mentioned something major about Mailloux. He revealed what an active NHL scout told him about the London Knights' defender, having watched several games of the semi-final series against Sarnia.
Wow! This is a huge statement about Mailloux's potential. His game has even been compared to that of Pavel Mintyukov, a 10th overall pick in 2022.
It's true that in addition to already having the physique, he has good skating and mobility, but, above all, he has a major league shot.
After completing an impressive season with 53 points, including 25 goals, in 57 games, he also stepped up his game in the playoffs, scoring six goals and getting 17 points in 15 games. Furthermore, he will have the opportunity to further improve his stats as he will participate in the OHL finals.
It is undeniable that there is still a lot of development to be done in his case, especially concerning his defensive game and decision-making during offensive drives. However, these elements can be worked on and learned, and one or two seasons in the AHL could be extremely beneficial to him.
The Canadiens hold an excellent prospect in their hands. They just need to develop him into a frontline defender in the NHL. He certainly has the assets to do it.
It will be interesting to see him line up with the Laval Rocket next year.
