Andrei Vasilevskiy is using a new and highly questionable method to bypass regulations
Do you remember the Stanley Cup Final between the Canadiens and the Lightning in 2021? Not only did the winners have a boosted team with a salary cap well beyond the limit, Andrei Vasilevskiy looked like a monster with his gear compared to Carey Price.
This photo has made the rounds on the web, and it has caused a lot of chatter, with many Internet users wondering if it's legal.
It seems like the goaltender is once again trying to play at the edge of the rules, but this time with his skates. He is currently practicing with entirely black skates, including the blade.
"It will potentially be more difficult to see the puck above the line if it is along or under his skate. There are no rules on color... the only requirement is that the end of the stick be in white tape." - Scouting The Ref
One wonders if the NHL will review its rule book, as this tactic could certainly advantage the Lightning in the future, and other goaltenders might be tempted to do the same. To be continued...
